Short profile of Parents Association of Experimental Primary Schools of Maraslion. (PAEPSM)
PAEPSM has been established and operated since 1952 and it is based in Athens, Greece. It is a nonprofit membership association with members all the parents of the more than 370 children that study at the Experimentary Primary Schools of Maraslion. Every year, it delivers extracurricular educational activities open to more than 300 primary school students and more to 500 parents; it organizes training activities for their parents as well as organizes cultural activities. Furthermore, it provides support to unemployed parents that the last year has been significantly increased and faces high risk of social exclusion as well as counseling support. Furthermore, it is possibly the only Parents’ Association in Europe that develops and pilot runs innovative e‐Learning tools and methodologies. It is a selffinanced organization financially supported with private funds. PAEPSM operates in close cooperation with the Experimentary Primary Schools of Maraslion (including a Special School for children with Special Needs), the Faculty of Primary Education of University of Athens and the Municipality of Athens. We are involved in various EU programs and mainly in actions that deal with school and adult education, human rights, research and development. Most of our activities include user needs analysis, pilot runs, dissemination (promotion and raising awareness).
Our association is cooperating closely with the Parents' Association of the 1st Experimental Junior High School of Athens.
Other Major Activities
We seek to improve the personal relations between our children and our families. We hope to see major ethical values to increase day to day among us. To reach our goal we plan, fund and organize activities which we hope can bring.
‐ We support by all means the schools by providing computers, printers etc.
‐ We support teachers’ activities ex. Students’ parade on 28th October (national holiday)
‐ We keep the school open on Saturdays offering low‐cost activities to help children learn and have fun as chess, basket ball, traditional dances etc.
‐ We organize and fund the graduation ceremony annually.
‐ We organize interacting activities by visiting archaeological sites and museums.
‐ We organize low‐cost educational excursions out of Athens.
‐ We organize the transport from and to the schools in the most secure and fast way.
